Circuit de la maratho N.Y.

Miles 1 - 4 DescriptionThe race starts at Fort Wadsworth on Staten Island. From there you’ll immediately cross the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, where halfway across – at the one-mile marker – you will reach the highest point of the whole course (274ft), after which you’ll exit off the bridge onto the streets of Brooklyn. At the two-mile point, the course passes the active army base Fort Hamilton and then continues for a lengthy stretch on 4th Avenue, which leads athletes past Sunset Park and its large Asian and Hispanic community.

Miles 5 - 8 DescriptionContinuing on 4th Avenue, you will pass the city playground between 5th and 3rd Streets. The seven-mile marker is located in front of the Old Stone House, which was at the centre of one of the first battles of the Revolutionary War. At mile eight, the course passes the Williamsburg Savings Bank Tower – which will have been looming large in your sight for some time during this stage of the course.

Miles 9 - 12 DescriptionThe route will now take you through Bedford-Stuyvesant, New York City’s largest African-American area, and after this you’ll cross over to Manhattan from Brooklyn via the Williamsburg Bridge. At the 12-mile mark you’ll arrive in Greenpoint – a settlement for the city’s Polish community.

Miles 13 - 16 DescriptionThe Pulaski Bridge marks the halfway point of the marathon and also represents the entrance to the Queens district. You’ll pass the Citicorp Tower close to the 14-mile marker, and a further mile along you will arrive at the foot of the Queensboro Bridge, where Silvercup Studios (New York’s largest film studios) are located. Runners must cross the Bridge and reach Manhattan’s 1st Avenue, where huge numbers of spectators normally congregate

Miles 17 - 20 DescriptionAt the 17-mile mark you’ll be running north on 1st Avenue, passing through the Yorkville neighborhood – a one-time haven for European immigrants. Two miles further on, you will run through the centre of the Italian district and then cross the Willis Avenue Bridge – which spans the Harlem River – and then enter the Bronx, where you will run for around a mile and pass the 20-mile point.

Miles 21 - 24 DescriptionAs you re-enter Manhattan via the Madison Avenue Bridge, you’ll be confronted by the sight of the Yankee Stadium – home of New York’s famous baseball team. The next two miles take runners along 5th Avenue, where you will encounter ‘Museum Mile’ and pass El Museo del Barrio, the Museum of the City of New York, and the New York Academy of Medicine. You will then see the Guggenheim Museum at the 23-mile mark as you enter Central Park at East 90th Street. Continuing on for another mile, the course cuts between the Metropolitan Museum of Art – the world’s largest art museum – and Cleopatra’s Needle.

Miles 25 - Finish DescriptionIn the final stage of the race you’ll continue running within Central Park before exiting onto the streets of Manhattan at 59th Street. You will then run on for half a mile and re-enter the Park at Columbus Circle with only a few blocks to go. The welcome finishing line is placed within Central Park on Tavern on the Green – where you will hopefully find that all your effort was worthwhile
